What Is Cold Brew?
Cold brew is a method of brewing coffee where ground coffee is steeped in cold or room temperature water for around 12-24 hours. Resulting in a smooth, less acidic coffee concentrate that is often diluted with water or milk and always served chilled, making it the perfect summertime beverage.
What You Need:

Toddy Cold Brewer

12 oz Coarse Ground Coffee

8 Cups of Filtered Water
How To Brew Cold Brew with a Toddy Brewer:
Step 1:
If you do not have pre-ground coffee, begin by grinding your coffee beans to a medium coarseness.
Step 2:
Insert the toddy stopper into the bottom of the container from below.
Step 3:
Wet the felt filter, and insert it into the bottom of the toddy brewing container.
Step 4:
Pour 12 ounces of coarse ground coffee into the brewing container.
Step 5:
Add half of the water into the container, making sure to focus on saturating all of the coffee grounds, allow the coffee to bloom for a minute or so. During this step, avoid stirring, as it can lead to a clogged filter.
Step 6:
Add the second half of the water. If there are still dry grounds floating on top, use the back of a spoon to gently push them below the surface.
Step 7:
Put the lid on and let the coffee steep in the refrigerator for 8-12 hours.
Step 8:
After the wait is up, remove the stopper and allow the cold brew to flow out into the Toddy decanter. This will generally take between 10-20 minutes.
Step 9:
Serve immediately, or store in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
A note on serving:
Since this is a cold brew concentrate, mix your drink with a 1:1 ratio of concentrate to water, milk, or another preferred liquid.
How To Brew Cold Brew Without a Toddy Brewer:
What you need:
- 12 oz of coarse ground coffee
- 8 cups of filtered water
- A large jar or pitcher (at least 2 quarts size)
- A fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or coffee filter.
- A large spoon or spatula for stirring
Step 1:
If you are not using pre-ground coffee begin by grinding your coffee to a coarse grind.
Step 2:
Add the coffee grounds into your pitcher or container, then give it a good stir to ensure that all of your grinds are saturated.
Step 3:
Seal the jar or container, and let the coffee steep in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours.
Step 4:
Slowly pour the mixture through your preferred straining method. You make have to repeat this a couple times to make sure you remove all the grinds.
Step 5:
Serve immediately over ice, or store in your fridge for up to two weeks, and enjoy later.
