About this project

Triunfo Verde has been running weather monitoring stations on their farms — and the data tells a clear story. Over the past two years, temperatures in the dry season have reached 38°C. The rainy season brings temperatures as low as 8°C. Coffee is maturing too early without reaching full development, lowering yields and affecting quality. This isn't a projection. It's what's already happening.

The cooperative has responded with a concrete climate adaptation strategy, and this project is the next chapter of it. After seeing strong results from a previous round of solar panel installation, Triunfo Verde is expanding the program while adding a full suite of ecosystem-based adaptation practices: soil microorganism production for nutrition and pest control, biofilters for managing honey water (the wastewater from coffee processing), integrated pest management, and renovation with climate-resilient varieties. Every material used in the program is produced within the communities themselves — keeping costs down and keeping skills local.

Beneficiaries are selected based on the cooperative's climate change adaptation scalability plan, focused on areas with the greatest need for practice improvement and with equal representation of women and men (50/50). The project is substantially co-funded: beneficiaries themselves contribute, along with the cooperative, Cafe Mam, and the Saberes farmer promoter training program — with the impact fund's $25,000 completing the package.

Project goals

01

Establish 32 sustainable production units across 32 households, each equipped with ecosystem-based adaptation practices — soil microorganism production, biofilters, integrated pest management, and renovation with climate-resilient varieties. All materials produced within the communities.

02

Install 32 additional solar panel modules, expanding on the cooperative's proven solar program — reducing carbon emissions, lowering energy costs, and improving quality of life for farming families.

03

Build 1 microorganism reproduction station capable of producing 4,000 liters of biological inputs annually, and equip 32 households with hand pumps for application across 96 hectares of farmland.

04

Train 70 producers on ecosystem-based adaptation practices, with equal representation of women and men — building community capacity to maintain and expand the program beyond the project period.

Project updates

June 2026 — Funding approved

The Cooperative Coffees impact fund approved $25,000 for Triunfo Verde's ecosystem-based adaptation and solar expansion project. Co-funding from Cafe Mam, the Saberes training program, the cooperative itself, and participating households brings the total project value to $94,766. Infrastructure procurement and training scheduling is underway.

Updates coming as solar panels go up and production units are established. Check back soon.
