Farm Coop: The Banko Michicha Cooperative is a group of smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia's Guji Zone, known for producing high-quality, organic, heirloom-variety coffees, often processed at washing stations like the one owned by Mr. Degefa Sema, forming part of the larger Oromia Union for export. They grow traditional landrace coffees alongside staple crops like enset (similar to a banana), delivering cherries to collection centers for processing, resulting in distinct, sweet, and fruity beans sought after by specialty coffee roasters globally. Around 800 local smallholders deliver to the washing station each harvest. Banko Michicha exemplifies how smallholder farmers integrate enset with coffee, creating resilient agricultural systems that meet both nutritional and economic needs, as highlighted in analyses by specialty coffee partners.

Why we love this coffee:

This coffee is grown in a renowned coffee growing region, part of the broader Guji coffee zone, which has gained international recognition for its high-quality specialty coffees distinct from neighboring areas like Sidama and Yirgacheffe.

We roasted this special coffee to a medium light roast level to bring out its bright fruit forward flavors.  This is also one of the highest scoring coffees we have ever offered as a seasonal.  Your taste buds will certainly delight!
